A Collection a Day #44 – Conan the Barbarian, originally uploaded by Cool and Collected.
Robert E. Howard introduced us to the land of Cimmeria and its hero, Conan the Barbarian in 1932. Since then, there have been countless books, magazines, comic books, movies, and toys based on the brute. Conan is one of those iconic figures that pretty much sums up an entire genre.
The original Conan the Barbarian movie, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, was one of the first truly great sword and sorcery movies I remember from my youth, and it introduced me to the world of fantasy novels, comics, and movies. I remember having a huge stack of Conan comics and having to hide the barely clad cover ladies from my mom. My number of Conan items is pretty sparse these days but I’ve been on the lookout for an original movie poster for a good price.
There’s a new Conan movie in the works, so expect to see lots of licensed merchandise hit the market, as a whole new generation is introduced to the lovable lug.
I have collected so many different things that I thought it would be fun to try and photograph a collection a day and see how far I can get.
