A Collection a Day #34 – 80’s Fantasy Movie Posters, originally uploaded by Cool and Collected.
Here are some more movie posters for your viewing pleasure. The title says “80’s” movie posters but the “Lord of he Rings” poster is from 1978. How do I know this? Well back in the old days (prior to the mid 1980’s) just about every movie poster had a super secret code printed on the bottom right corner from the National Screen Service. The first two digits of that code represent the year that the movie was released. If there is a letter “R” before the number, that means the poster is a reissue or a rerelease.
If you buy a vintage poster for your collection and it doesn’t have an NSS stamp, you better double check its authenticity.
These posters are from some of my favorite movies growing up. I can’t tell you how many times I watched “Dragonslayer” as a kid. If a movie had swords and dragons in it, I inevitably watched it multiple times. I like the “Red Sonja” poster with Ahnuld and Brigitte Nielson before she became scary, but I am looking for an original “Conan the Barbarian” poster that fits my budget. I passed on one at the DC Big Flea a few months ago for $50 and I’m still kicking myself about that.
I have collected so many different things that I thought it would be fun to try and photograph a collection a day and see how far I can get.
I never thought of collecting old movie poster, but I must say it’s a great idée. Back to the days, where movie poster were marvelous….
