A Collection a Day #30 – Ace Double Sci-Fi Paperbacks, originally uploaded by Cool and Collected.
Who doesn’t like a two-for-one deal? Ace Doubles are two novels in one book. Finish one novel and then you just flip it over and you have a whole different novel with its own cover.
Sci-fi greats such as Philip K. Dick and Dean Koontz had novels printed in Ace Doubles. These books are easy spot on the shelves of a used book store since the spines are split in half, either vertically or horizontally. The bright blue color on many of them also makes the books easy to see, but these are becoming harder to find as they are highly collectible and the book store owners have figured that out.
Ace Doubles were printed for 21 years, so they’re not exactly rare, but they are certainly popular with collectors (like me!). You can usually buy these for $5-10 but some of the rarer titles can go much higher.
I have collected so many different things that I thought it would be fun to try and photograph a collection a day and see how far I can get.
