A Collection a Day #23 – 1966 Batman toys, originally uploaded by Cool and Collected.
On January 12, 1966, the first episode of Batman aired on ABC. It’s amazing to think that the show, starring Adam West and Burt Ward, only lasted two and a half seasons, when you consider the enormous impact it had on pop culture history.
In 1966, just about everything you can imagine was branded with the Batman logo. I’ve been collecting items from that year for a while and just can’t get enough of that blue and grey fellow. I’ll take that costume any day over any of the future incarnations. Like many of my other collections, I stay focused on just one character, and am not interested in the Batmobile, Robin, the Joker or any of the other great villains. You have to draw the line somewhere, or you will be in the poor house.
I’m always on the lookout for vintage Batman items, especially figural items like the ones in this picture. I have this collection displayed in a lighted book case behind glass doors. When you display items like they would in a museum, even the most mundane items can look like they’re worth a million bucks.
I have collected so many different things that I thought it would be fun to try and photograph a collection a day and see how far I can get.

Thanks! I’ve actually added some fun things since this photo was taken, including a large nightlight/lamp.
