Kenner Planet of the Apes action figures?

What have we here? Apparently, Kenner was thinking about a Planet of the Apes line of action figures to coincide with the Tim Burton atrocity of 2001 — huh? This prototype figure is being offered at auction and it’s not too shabby — kind of a superhero/He-Man ape.

Of course, Hasbro ended up releasing a line of figures for the Burton movie that were pretty awful, while Kenner made 12″ dolls based on the original PotA movies. This prototype makes me wonder what could have been — the world could always use a few more apes.

This prototype and more are being offered at liveauctioneers.com.

Kenner was still around then…? well, I guess that was the age of Steroid Luke and the other original POTF2 figures

Kenner? In 2001? I thought they were long gone by 2000? Anyhoo, this proto Ape reminds me of Ulik from Marvel Comics more than any of the PoTA characters.

That was supposed to be for an animated series that was scrapped, after that the Burton film came out.
Very unique looking piece, would have been a cool animate series if they did.
