When Todd Sheffer of Hake’s Americana & Collectibles saw that the League was talking about bootleg, knock-off, and third-party toys this week, he offered to share some of the items in their current inventory. (Can you imagine working in a place that just has boxes of this sort of thing laying around? Think about that for a while — Todd, you are living the dream!)
There weren’t any descriptions included, so you’ll just have to use your imagination on the origin and history of these beauties…
Is there any clearer sign that the item is a bootleg than packaging that features both Marvel and DC characters?
I’ve often considered starting a collection of super heroes on motorcycles, and this Batman toy might actually tip me over the edge.
I wasn’t really a fan of bootleg toys before this week, but seeing examples like these have certainly changed my view of them. There is a charm about these toys that you just don’t see in most licensed products.
Very cool! A few of them were from Gulliver. Same company that made the Captain Ray I featured. I guess their bootlegging was far reaching 😉
I wonder if Gulliver is a legit company with a license for the toys?
HAHA! Those are awesome. Makes me want to open a whole new branch of collecting. (Like I need more)
No kidding. Some of these are pretty great.
Ohhh!!! The figures with text in spanish are from Argentina. The One labeled “Baberin” has this text below: “If you move his left arm, he will move his head”.
The following picture has a text that says: “Marvel Comics (unreadable) Articulated PVC figures with core made of wire pieces. Argentinian Industry” (“alma” in this case is “inside” or “core”. “Alma de alambre” means that this figure has wires inside).
So cool and collected! 😀
That’s awesome, thanks Yelinna!
Ya know this was a good topic this week Brian. I’ve been learning a great deal about things that I was just clueless about before. Great items too!
You and me both! I’ve learned a ton from the League this week. There are definitely some items worth pursuing out there.
