It’s summer time, and you know what that means — Road Trip! I thought about the one place I would most like to visit on this planet and it just happens to be an amazing pop culture destination as well. Unfortunately, I will only be going on this trip in my overactive imagination, but a guy can dream can’t he? Let’s go to New Zealand! (I know this isn’t exactly a “road trip” but let’s not get mired in the details.)
New Zealand has fully embraced the fame and fortune a little-known series of movies by Peter Jackson. Just check out what greets you at the airport!
Of course, the tour would have to begin in Hobbiton. The fact that they preserved the original set and now offer tours is brilliant. Imagine all the amazing photo ops this place would have — it would be enough to keep this blog populated for a year!
I want to live here!
The Lord of the Rings tour industry is booming in New Zealand. I know a few people who have had the good fortune to visit the country and go on these tours, and I am insanely jealous — I mean, Gollum jealous, “my Precioussss!”
I am always in awe of nature’s majesty, and would pick a trip to the mountains over Disney any day. New Zealand would be incredible in its own right, and the fact that some of my favorite movies were filmed there is just a bonus. Who wants to go on an orc hunt with me?

I’m not the only one going on a trip this summer. Check out some other pop culture destinations on G.I. Jigsaw, Space for Rent, Nerd Nook, D.I. Treasures, and more from the League of Extraordinary Bloggers!
Nice choice! I feel like the term “bucket list” is tossed around a bit excessively these days….but this trip is def worthy!
As a Kiwi (New Zealander) who regularly checks your website given the great articles about the collecting community in the U.S, I can certainly ease the large travel costs if you ever decide to visit NZ and do a LOTR/Hobbit tour as we have a spare room in our place that’s fairly close to Wellington 🙂 You’ll have to go to the capital city to check out Weta Workshop which displays a great array of LOTR etc items 🙂
Oh wow, that is so nice of you to offer! NZ is literally on the other side of the world from me, and the likelihood of me ever getting there is slim to none but I truly appreciate the thought! If you ever make it to Washington, DC, let me know. 😉
You could always claim the trip as a business expense – research on the international side of collecting, ha ha!
Am amazed at the sheer size of collector fairs and shows you guys have, will make it over there one day and check out a few of them.
Awesome website, you definitely have a group of guys down here who follow it on a regular basis. Keep up the cool work!
Excellent! My plans for world domination are in full swing. 😉
